SPECIALIST ROLES

Specialist desks, rotational cover and confidential search

Temporary and rotational crew, refit and new-build project teams, sub-40m programmes, and the searches that cannot be advertised.

Not every hire is a permanent, advertised, twelve-week process. Some are a Chief Engineer needed by Friday for six weeks of rotation cover. Some are an entire interior department for a new build that delivers in March. Some cannot be advertised at all, because the person currently in the seat does not yet know they are being replaced.

These searches run on different timelines and different rules, so we handle them separately rather than pushing them through the standard permanent process and hoping.

SCOPE

Where this desk works

  • Rotational and temporary cover

Relief Captains, engineers on rotation cover, seasonal interior, last-minute gaps before a charter

  • Refit and new-build project crew

Building a full team to a delivery date, including yard-period hires

  • Sub-40m programmes

Smaller crew, wider job scopes, and owners who are frequently aboard

  • Confidential search

Replacing an incumbent discreetly, with no advertising and a controlled shortlist

STANDARDS

How these searches differ

Same standards, different mechanics. Speed and discretion change how a search has to be run. Read about Quay Crew.

Availability verified on the day, not last month
Temp and relief markets move constantly. A candidate who was free a fortnight ago may well be on a boat now, so we confirm availability before a name reaches you rather than after.
Vetting is not shortened because the hire is
Referencing, ticket checks and ID verification still happen on a six-week cover contract. A temporary crew member has the same access to your guests and your yacht as a permanent one.
Confidential searches stay off the market
No advert, no database blast, no mention of the yacht until a candidate is genuinely in play and has agreed terms of confidentiality. Shortlists on these searches are deliberately short.
Sub-40m briefs written against reality
On a smaller boat almost everyone doubles up, and a job title tells you very little about the actual day. We spend longer on the brief here than on almost any other search.
