ENGINEERING

Engineers and ETOs for modern, heavily automated platforms

Chief Engineers, Seconds and Thirds, Sole Engineers and ETOs, across private and charter programmes, refits and new builds.

Engineering is the hardest department on the yacht to fill and the most expensive to get wrong. The pool is small, it is overwhelmingly passive, and the strongest engineers almost never reach a job board.

Most of our engineering placements come from direct approach rather than applications. That is slower to start and considerably more reliable, because the engineer you want is usually already somewhere they are content, on a rotation they like, and will only move for a specific reason.

STANDARDS

What we check before a CV reaches you

The five pillars on the About Quay Crew page apply to every search. These are the engineering-specific ones. Read about Quay Crew.

Ticket and tonnage genuinely aligned
Y tickets, EOOW, Second and Chief CoCs and unlimited certificates all carry limits that decide whether a candidate can legally hold the seat on your platform. We confirm the certificate and the tonnage before the conversation goes further.
Systems experience matched to the boat
Hybrid and diesel-electric propulsion, dynamic positioning, and heavily integrated AV/IT are not transferable by assumption. An engineer who has run one platform beautifully can struggle badly on another, and the CV rarely makes that visible.
Yard and refit exposure
Managing contractors through a yard period is a different job from running a busy charter season. If a refit or a new build is coming, we screen for engineers who have been through one and can say what went wrong last time.
Rotation expectations discussed early
Rotation is the single most common reason an engineering offer falls over late. We get the candidate to state what they need at the first conversation, so nobody discovers a mismatch at offer stage.

Need an engineer?

Give us the platform, the tonnage and the rotation on offer. If the brief is not achievable in the current market we will say so early rather than run a search that goes nowhere.
