DECK

Deck crew and officers, from Deckhand to Chief Officer

Officers with the right tickets and the right temperament, and the deck teams who keep safety and presentation where they belong.

Deck is where tickets and temperament have to turn up together. An Officer of the Watch with a clean logbook is not hard to find. An OOW who will still be aboard in eighteen months, who reads guests well, and who the Captain trusts on the bridge at 0400 is the actual brief.

We cover the full exterior department: the officer track from Chief Officer down, and the deck crew who run the tenders, the toys and the paintwork. Much of this desk works the passive market, because the strongest deck crew are usually already in a seat they are happy in and are not reading job boards.

STANDARDS

What we check before a CV reaches you

The five pillars on the About Quay Crew page apply to every search. These are the deck-specific ones. Read about Quay Crew.

Tickets verified at source
We check CoCs, endorsements and revalidation dates ourselves. A ticket listed on a CV is a claim until someone has seen the document, and expiry dates have a habit of falling inside the contract.
Tender and toy competence, specified properly
Comfortable with tenders tells you nothing. We ask which hulls, what length, in what conditions, and who signed the candidate off. The same goes for the toy inventory, which has grown faster than most crew CVs admit.
Watchkeeping under real pressure
Night watches, tight anchorages and busy Med summers separate the officers who cope from the ones who have only ever had good conditions. We reference this directly with previous Captains.
Progression paced sensibly
We will tell a strong Deckhand to wait for the right first Officer role rather than take the first one offered. Rushing that step tends to cost two years rather than gain one, and it costs you a hire when it goes wrong.
